    JCrosgrey's Note:

This cake is the best homemade chocolate cake that I have ever had. You will not believe how moist it is! Serve with a simple icing or eat without.

I must have done something wrong because this cake is way too bland for me. I wonder if I should have added salt like another reviewer did. I already had everything together when I realized I had no oil, but I used shortening instead which shouldn't have affected the taste that much. I only tried a piece without icing. Maybe once I add icing I'll like it more. My bf loves chocolate as much as I do and he really likes it. So maybe it's just me! :) It did come out huge and moist so it looks fine - just tastes off to me.

This was really good cake. I did add a teaspoon of salt, since there wasn't any in the recipe and sometimes it makes a huge difference. I used a fudge frosting made with chocolate chips, milk, and butter. Thanks!

This cake is fantastic!! I make a lot of cakes, both from mixes and from scratch. This cake is so moist and so chocolatey, we absolutely love it! I baked it in 2 8" cake pans and layered it with chocolate buttercreme frosting of my own. I will be making this one again and again.
