Great recipe from kindergarten!!! What else could "W" represent but great, chocolate waffles? These are really good frosted or covered with whip cream and chocolate syrup. :)
- 1 cup butter
- 4 beaten eggs
- 1 1⁄2 cups sugar
- 1⁄2 cup cocoa
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄2 cup water
- Mix all ingredients together.
- Drop batter onto a waffle iron.
- Bake in waffle iron for 50 to 60 seconds on medium setting.
We did enjoy the chocolatey flavor, but found it to be a thick batter that turned out dry and crumbly coming out of the waffle iron. Needed a lot of liquidy toppings to wash them down. Will try thinning the batter with milk if I make them again.
Very Rich and thick but good. Instead of water I used milk and apple juice to sweeten it more (as if that was needed). Also added a bit of cinnamon just for a more dynamic flavor. Next time I'll try using less butter and cocoa, and substitute in yogurt (makes waffles more fluffy).
I halved this recipe and made it exactly as written. It didn't specify in the recipe, but I melted the butter in the microwave before making the batter. I made waffles in my Belgium waffle maker, and then topped it off with chocolate syrup, sliced bananas, whipped cream and a sprinkle of cocoa powder. Yummy! Made for Jan 2010 Comfort Cafe.
