Wienerollas

"I found this in an old cookbook and thought it looked interesting, especially for kids who love hot dogs. It seems to be a twist on the old Pigs in a Blanket standby, but with much more flavor! Some kids may not like the onion, so feel free to omit it."

  1. This was pretty good.. I always like the crescent roll recipe but I did not have any crescents on hand but I did have biscuits.. Loved the idea of putting onions in because I love fresh onions on my hot dogs and I also did not use the potato chips I thought that was an odd idea and would just make a mess

  2. Sorry, I just didn't enjoy this recipe. I really didn't understand the idea of the potato chips on the outside. I made half with the crushed chips and half without, and preferred the ones without. I didn't use the onions, but I don't really think it would have changed my opinion. Once you leave the onions and potato chips out, they are just like a pig in a blanket, but with biscuit dough instead of crescent rolls. My daughter wouldn't eat them, and I just didn't care for them. But, that is just my opinion. Obviously some others felt it was a good recipe.

  3. These were really good. I made them to freeze for lunches. They froze well. I loved the onions in them. I left the ketchup out of some of them and then dipped them in ketchup. This made them easier to wrap. I may leave the potato chips off next time, just because I think they would be equally good without them. Thanks!

  4. Awesome! What a great recipe and so much fun to make. Definitely a wonderful take on the old piggies-in-the-blanket. Only thing I had to do was increase the amount of crushed potato chips by about 1/2 cup. I don't have a great oven so bake time is probably between 18 - 24 minutes (I started checking them around 16 minutes) Thanks for a great new recipe!!

I am... ~a mother of 2 kids (19 and 22) who are extremely picky eaters. The mere mention of "healthy" sends them running in the opposite direction. They prefer the creamy, cheesy, fried stuff that they weren't brought up on! ~a wife of a wonderful man who fights an expanding waistline and will lovingly eat most anything I set before him. Everything is 5 stars to him. :) He's the easiest customer a cook could ask for! ~a teacher who tends to reach for comfort foods to relieve stress. I am a middle school reading specialist. The miracles I see on a daily basis keeps me going! But it's also stressful, so keep me away from the cookie jar! I really have to fight off the sugary, fat-laden stuff that has no worth beyond the momentary comfort in my mouth. ~and I'm also a daughter who was brought up on home cooked meals back when calories meant nothing and taste was everything! That is an idea built into my system that's hard to shake! My mother raised 8 kids (I'm #7) on her home-cooking and I always teased her that she didn't raise a single skinny kid!
