After playing with different ingredients I came up with a simple healthy whole wheat bread recipe that is quick and nutritional. It requires a breadmaker.
- 15 ounces water
- 3 tablespoons ground flax seeds (or 1 tablespoon olive oil)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons salt
- 1⁄3 cup sunflower seeds
- 1⁄2 cup oats
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 2 cups bread flour
- 2 teaspoons vital wheat gluten
- 2 1⁄2 teaspoons yeast
- Put ingredients in order listed into the breadmaker. Set the breadmaker on "whole wheat" cycle.
This makes really good bread!
I ha no sunflower seeds but it came out delicious!
I tried other bread recipes but it did not compare to this one!
Fantastic recipe! I've tried several different whole wheat recipes, and this one takes the cake. I didn't have any vital wheat gluten or bread flour (something I usually keep on hand), so I just used all-purpose flour. I LOVE the sunflower seeds - it gives the bread a great texture. This bread will definitely become a staple at my house! Thanks for submitting it!
Love this recipe! I made it as printed except that I substituted agave nectar for the honey to make it even healthier. This made a perfect 2 lb. size loaf with no concerns about rising too high. I will make this often.
