Whole Wheat Bread (Bread Machine)

"I am not a huge fan of whole wheat bread but this one doesn't taste like your typical whole wheat bread. This makes a 2 pound loaf. I use King Arthur Flour (all-purpose) in my machine -- not bread flour -- and it comes out perfect for all the doughs I make. I guessed on baking time since it's different depending on how you bake it."

  • Add ingredients to your machine in the order the manufacturer suggests ~ with mine I start with liquids and end with yeast.
  • Select whole grain cycle if you have one or the basic white bread cycle.
  • I usually just make the dough in the machine (on the dough cycle), put it in a greased 9x5 bread pan, and bake at 350º until the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.

  1. There is a fatal flaw in the recipe as printed. Yeast amount should be 2 1/4 tsp.

  4. This was a fantastic success!! I wasn't sure what kind of yeast to use, so I used 2 1/4 of RapidRise/Bread Machine yeast. That was the only change I made. I used whole milk and I Can't Believe It's Not Butter. Jim says the taste is awesome and tastes just like a good wheat bread should taste like. The texture is dense, without being too dense. It's a good solid bread with a good taste and is super yummy with butter and jelly! I used my bread machine on the whole wheat cycle and medium crust. Perfection!!
     
  5. This is the 3rd bread recipe I have made w/my new ABM, but would have been my DHs 1st choice as he is a *HUGE* fan of whole wheat bread. I made it last nite so it could debut for DH & a fishing buddy we had as a guest for breakfast b4 they headed for the lakes to save some trout from drowning. They were properly impressed as it had the perfect texture & was great toasted & buttered ~ a *huge* hit! Thx for sharing this sure to be repeated recipe w/us. :-)
