I made this cake for my niece's 10th birthday. I was *very* disappointed it made only a 1" high 8" cake, I needed each layer to be 2" high. It made a very heavy, dense cake that tasted good, but not what I was looking for. I'll have to remake this cake using another recipe. I've posted a photo with my thumb next to the layer for scale.

I made this for my husband's birthday. After eating at a 5 star restaurant and having dessert there, he said he would rather have had this cake any day. I didn't have any raspberry extract or liquor, so I used cake flavored vodka with a splash of raspberry syrup. It was perfect and delight. Thank you for this amazing post.

This is an awesome recipe! Just straight winning on my taste buds. I mean, complete party in my mouth. I adapted mine to be festive for easter. Picture is in the photos. Also, I can attest that strawberries are just fine to use, it came out awesome. Dont be shy with the jam and extract but dont over do it so that its all sorts of seeping over the edge. Let that extract seep into the cake. I messed up on the frosting somehow so I just used a vanilla frosting from the jar. Still freaking delicious but I am sure the recipes frosting would have been even better. I think I beated it too much so it was kind of clumpy. I threw it away. Amazingness.
