I've never had anything jerk flavoured before so was quite excited to try it. I used my Jamaican Jerk Paste that I posted just for the tour. It's winter here so I used mainly seasonal ingredients but used the jerk paste on the pineapple & peaches. I was quite surprised the heat of the paste & the sweetness of the fruit go really well together & the lime yoghurt refreshing on the palate.
In all fairness I am not going to rate this. It started at a definite disadvantage with me...since I am not, in general, a fan of jerk flavoring and don't like mangos much. But I thought I would give both one more try. It is a very pretty salad; I do like the dressing and undoubtedly will use it on other fruit salads. The very-slightly jerked grilled pineapple, by itself, was delicious. The recipe is creative; I applaud your entry in ZWT3.
This was very different. I used pineapple, mango, strawberries and blueberries. I liked the combo of the spice with some of the fruit (like the pineapple and mango, but I found it a little off putting with the berries (especially the blueberries). Loved the dressing though! Thanks guys!
When I first tasted this salad, I wasn't quite sure if I liked it or not. So...I tasted some more, and some more...and well I ended up eating about 3/4 of the entire recipe! Made without strawberries because the grocery was out of them and the only thing I didn't add to the sauce was the zest of the lemon...it's a phobia of mine, don't ask. Oh, and I didn't cut everything up after grilling, just placed on a plate, dumped the sauce in the middle and went to town! I really like the little "wang" of heat you get after a bite. Hmmm...maybe I should taste test the rest, just to be sure....
This was a very interesting fruit salad (well, that's why I picked it). I really enjoyed the whole grilled fruit thing, and I loved the lime dressing, but I was a teensy bit ooked out by the taste of onion/garlic with my fruit. The heat was fine for me, but I think if I were to make this again with the spice, I would alter the jerk seasoning to be strictly spicy/sweet, without the savory elements (I would definitely make this recipe again minus the jerk paste, though). I'm glad that I tried this, because it really is a good and different recipe (bonus for thinking outside the box here), but it needs a tiny bit of alteration to gain my fifth star (of course, it could just have been my choice of jerk seasoning. If so, sorry guys!) :) Good job, nonetheless!
Very nice and unique. We were not used to the jerk seasoning, never tried it before, but it isn't as bad as I thought it would be! The sweetness of the fruit goes well with it.Thanks!
I used peach and pineapple grilled slightly to carmelize then added the jerk spice. Then also grilled the banana slightly. Added berries, served with a little pound cake slice and the sauce drizzled over, more for a dessert than an salad.
This was great. Alas I do not live in the Caribbean, so I could got get mango or papaya, so I doubled the pineapple and peach. I used frozen starwberries and blueberries because they are out of season now. DH did not care for the grilled flavor but I loved it. The dressing is just right and doesn't overpower the fruit.
Ohhhhhhhhhh! I love this salad. I love this salad! I LOVE THIS SALAD!!! The only change I made was from blueberries to blackberries (just because I like blackberries more. Be careful with the paste because as the description says a little goes a long way!!! AWESOME JOB WHINE AND CHEESE GANG!!!!
