directions

  • Preheat oven to 400ºF.
  • Place potatoes in a large saucepan and pour in enough water to cover potatoes. Set pan over high heat and bring to a boil; reduce heat to medium and simmer 10 minutes, until potatoes are fork-tender. Drain potatoes, transfer to a large bowl and add sour cream and margarine; mash until smooth, season to taste with salt and set aside.
  • Meanwhile, heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion, carrots and celery; cook until soft, about 3 minutes. Add turkey and cook until browned, breaking up the meat as it cooks, about 5 minutes. Add flour, rosemary, thyme, salt and pepper; stir to coat. Add broth and bring to a simmer; simmer until mixture thickens, about 3 minutes.
  • Transfer turkey mixture to a 9-inch, deep-dish pie plate. Spread mashed potatoes over top and using the back of a spoon, make decorative swirls over the top. Bake until potatoes are golden, about 30 minutes. Slice into 6 pieces and serve.

  1. This did not taste like a WW recipe at ALL! My family (including young kiddos) loved it! I didn't have the rosemary alone so I used an italian blend seasoning (that had both rosemary and thyme in it.) I also used beef broth and a little skim milk added to the potatoes. I used 5 small potatoes instead of the two large! I will be making this all the time! THANK YOU!

  2. Made this for a weight watchers potluck at work...It was a hit! This tastes just like "non-weight watchers approved" Sheper's pie. We really enjoyed this dish. Taste is not compromised at all with the healthier subsitutions. Thanks for posting!

  3. Note: I just calculated the Points Plus for this recipe and it is 7...but well worth it!

  4. This is delicious. My family usually doesn't like ground turkey, and I have been asked to make it again. Great leftovers for lunch at work next day.

  5. Yes! This is a good one! We had it for dinner and my husband said this was a keeper. Watch your portion size and enjoy with a nice salad. On our way to weight loss! Happy, healthy cooking for thise we love.

  1. I was so glad to find a healthy recipe to add to my collection. The only modifications I made were to use ground chicken instead of turkey and dill instead of the rosemary, since I didn't have any. It tasted great and will be made again! Thanks for posting!

  2. Excellent recipe, I definitely wanted seconds! I made a couple of changes; I added about a cup of diced mushrooms and used extra lean ground beef instead of the ground turkey. Substitutions didn't change the points when I calculated them. Will be making this again.

  3. Yum! This was fantastic. DH is defintely a fan! I made it according to the recipe the first time and made 3 small pies (there's only 2 of us after all!) The next time I made it, I made a vegetarian version with 3/4 c. dried lentils and 1 cup mushrooms instead of turkey and veg. broth. I also decided to use red skin potatoes with the skins on. It is equally good both ways!!

  4. I thought this was really quite tasty. I used ground turkey but wanted it to taste more authentic so I used beef broth instead of chicken broth. My family loved it! After reading other reviews, I also cut the rosemary and thyme in half, but I actually regretted that decision. I have found that to be a distinct flavor of Sheperd's Pie and will use the full amounts next time. I also did add a bit of seasoning blend instead of salt and pepper, which I found delightful. I did not add a full 2 cups of broth as I was wary of the warnings of "soupiness" and found that 1 1/2 cups was just right. My family agreed that this should be part of our regular rotation. Thank you!

  5. Made for Zaar Chef Alphabet Soup Game. We really enjoyed this - true comfort food at it's best. I used 94% lean ground beef instead of ground turkey and also at the suggestion of one of the other reviewers, I reduced the rosemary and thyme in half and it was perfect. This will become a regular when I need comfort food. Thanks for posting this xpensve!
