A nice warm fruit combo from Sunsweet

  1. Dissolve 2 tablespoons cornstach in 2 tablspoons water and set aside.
  2. Bring prune juice to a boil in a medium saucepan; cook over medium-high heat for 20 minutes or until reduced and thickened.
  3. Stir in honey, cornstarch mixture, 1 tablespoon butter, cinnamon and cloves. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until very thick; set aside.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F Stir apples and prunes into sauce mixture and transfer to a 2 quart baking dish.
  5. Combine flour, sugar and baking powder in a medium bowl. Mix in 1/2 cup butter with your fingers until incorporated; sprinkle over apple-prune mixture.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Serve warm with or without ice cream.

Yum, yum. I changed it a little to be quicker and use what I had on hand. Instead or making prune juice into a syrup or adding honey (both of which I didn't have), I used some date syrup (bought at a Middle Eastern shop that sells Iraqi ingredients, also ncan be found in health food stores) in there place. I also did not add cornstarch as we have sensitivities to it and it is GMO! I used a light tasting extra virgin olive oil instead of butter to be dairy free (the butter would give a good flavour), no spice (I am back and forth between cities and have just staples where I am now so I had none on hand, the granny smith apples, pitted prunes, brown rice flour to be gluten free (amount adjusted as needed), organic cane sugar, no baking powder as that also contains our enemy GMO corn. Followed the recipe right on down, using the pitted plums/prunes rather than the dates, & found the plums & apples to be a wonderfully satisfying fruit combo! Thanks for sharing this keeper of a recipe! [Made & reviewed in Everyday Is a Holiday tag]
