Wacky Cake

"This was my great-grandma's recipe that she gave to my mom when she was young. I've added chocolate chips to it before but they are optional. (In the picture my sister put frosting on it and "decorated" it with pecans for New Years.)"

  1. I have been using this recipe for years and it it a favorite for sure! The only difference in my recipe from yours is that mine uses 1 (level) tsp. baking soda, and 1/2 (scant) tsp. salt, and 1/3 c. oil. If you decide you don't want the chocolate chips on top, you can make my recipe for Recipe #218589 goes very well with this cake. It is sweet, but not overly sweet, and it is a great frosting for making designs. After my cake is frosted, I often take the tip of a rounded knife and press down on the frosting and then pull away and it makes picks all over the top of the cake. Very pretty, especially with chopped nuts, sprinkles, Jimmys, or anything else you might want to add on top.
