This was outstanding! My DH travels to Hanoi often and said this was spot on. I also used anise seeds in a cheesecloth in the broth. We like it really brothy so I added a can of beef connsomme as well. I put everything for broth in a crockpot on low and by dinner it was nothing more than soak noodles and chop garnishes. Soooo good!
Absolutely delicious! I've been craving pho ever since a girlfriend of my took me out for it last week. There aren't any Vietnamese restaurants close by, so I tried this and my craving has been satisfied. THANK YOU!!
Great recipe. I tried Pho for the first time a long time ago in California. For some reason I ended up with tripe in it. That was probably because I didn't know what I was ordering. I didn't like it. Fortunately a Vietnamese restaurant opened in the small city where I live. Wife and I decided to try the beef pho. It was great. The restaurant unfortunately went out of business. Found this recipe and tried it. I used tenderloin and followed the directions as shown. I think it came out better than at the restaurant where we liked it. Thanks for posting it.
Wow! This was not only completely yummy, but so simple to make! It tasted just like the Pho we get at a local vietnamese restaurant! I am so glad I tried making it! I did add 3 teaspoons of ground anise seed and took out the cinnamon before it was done simmering (probably about half way through) In addition, I added the fish sauce directly to the broth. Great find-GREAT recipe!
Fantastic! We eat this lots at a favorite Vietnamese restaurant but this was just as good! We added star anise and mushrooms to the stock.
This is very good recipe. I love this soup since I went to a Vietnamese restauran. I crave this soup. I make it 1-2 a week. And is so healthy.!!!
I also added star anise to the broth during simmering. The soup was very flavorful even without all the add ins! Thanks for sharing.
Just as good as the real thing, with a bit of practice you will be cooking like a Vietnamese person! If you are a pho lover, you have to try this. I actually invented my own version before I realized this recipe was on this site.
