Venetian Orange and Chocolate Cookies

  • For cookies:

  • Cream crisco, gradually adding sugar. Stir in honey, milk and orange zest.
  • In a separate bowl sift flour, salt and baking soda.
  • Add wet and dry ingredients, stirring until smooth.
  • Roll into balls approximately 1 T sized each.
  • Bake at 325 degrees approximately 20 minutes, or until cookies are golden brown.
  • Glaze:

  • Boil sugar and water until syrupy. Add cocoa and continue cooking for 15 minutes.
  • When cookies are cool roll cookies in glaze until lightly coated. Be very careful, as the glaze will be very hot.
  • Set cookies out on a flat surface until glaze has set and cooled.
