  1. Add the first 8 ingredients to a 4-5 quart slow cooker; stir to combine.
  2. Cover and cook on LOW for 7-8 hours.
  3. Add in half-and-half and butter; stir and let heat through.
  4. Check seasoning to taste and add more salt/pepper if desired.
  5. Serve in soup bowls.

This was wonderful. I did add more brown sugar than the recipe called for--I liked it a little sweeter. Really nice for autumn.
