This stuff is KILLER!!! I served it with bread pudding and had not a drtop left!!!! This is a superb recipe that can be used as a sauce for so MANY things.... cakes, pies, bread puddings, gingerbread, pound cakes, the list goes on and on THANKS for a keeper!!!
I made a scratch pound cake for a chocolate fondue a couple days ago and had about half of it left that I wanted to do something else with. So I made up a batch of my homemade chocolate pudding and this vanilla sauce. I cut two 1/4-inch slices of pound cake, covered it with chocolate pudding and then drizzled this vanilla sauce over it. Even picky eater (DD#2) had to have some of this! (picky eater DD#3 was sick with the flu, so she wasn't eating anything!) I used whole milk for the light cream and 35% Pure Vanilla Extract for the vanilla. Thank you for sharing a really lovely recipe Barbara!!! This one strikes me as being very versatile.
I made this in the micro! Quick and easy! I`m serving it with Sunken Chocolate Souffle. Vanilla comes through nicely in this creamy sauce.
Perfect for bread pudding! I used skim milk since I didn't have any cream or half and half. And I added a pinch of cornstarch since it was thin b/c of my sub of skim milk. Yum! Thanks for posting!
Very delicious and easy! I used milk instead of cream and it was fine. I served it over a very rich chocolate souffle. The saltiness of the butter was a perfect complement to the sweet cholocate. Will definitly use this as my standard vanilla sauce.
Yummy yummy! I, too, needed vanilla sauce for bread pudding and did not have cornstarch. This was delicious! I did make a slight variation however after reading the previous reviews and added a couple spoonfuls of flour to thicken it up (being to impatient to wait for it to cook down).
I needed a vanilla sauce for bread pudding and was out of cornstarch so i tried this recipe. YUM! I cooked it down until it was the consistency of thick syrup. It was very quick and easy to make and i will be making again.
The sauce was very flavorful and super easy to make. However I was thinking that with cream that it would be thicker. I've noticed that other vanilla sauce options listed cornstarch...think I might try this recipe again with just a tad of cornstarch to go for the thickness I'd like. The flavor however was quite good.
