  • Bring water to boil in a small sauce pan.
  • Combine sugar and cornstarch.
  • Stir well.
  • Add sugar mixture to boiling water.
  • Reduce heat to medium, stirring constantly or until mixture thickens.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Add butter, vanilla, and salt.
  • Stir until butter melts.

Tweaks

  1. Add 1/2 tsp. nutmeg to go with Bread Pudding.
     
  2. I did use this over the bread pudding and it was delicious. I also substituted part of the rum I used to soak the raisins in for the water. Delicious! I will make this again and again.
     
  3. I made this to go with the bread pudding Rhonda posted (which is yummy). I substituted 1/4 of the cup of water with 1/4 cup of the spiced rum I soaked my cranberries in (instead of raisins and brandy), and it gave it a nice "punch."
