- Allow butter to warm to room temperature.
- In large bowl, beat together sugar, butter, vanilla and milk until smooth. If necessary add more milk until frosting is spreading consistency. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring. Mix everything well.
Wonderful recipe! Very rich but a wonderful consistency and worth the effort. I made it for my Christmas Bouche de Noel.

Very good. I used 4 tbsp. whole milk and 1/2 cup butter plus 4 tbsp. butter and it came out really creamy and not overly sweet or hard to spread. I also made chocolate cupcakes with it, and the combination of vanilla buttercream frosting on top of the chocolate cupcake is delicious and perfect! Thanks for posting!
