      Believe it or not, I'd never even tasted taco soup, much less made it. I was a little bit unsure about it, but this was a HUGE hit with my family! The hardest part was finding the ingredients at our (awful) local grocery stores. Unable to locate the types of tomatoes called for, I used plain and added a teaspoon of Cajun seasoning, a little cumin and oregano, and about a tablespoon of green chilies to make up for the missing flavors. Buttermilk ranch dressing mix was not to be found, so I used H.V. Fiesta. The only substitution I made of my own free will was corn (which we love) for hominy (which we don't). :) Everyone went back for seconds -- and some for thirds!!
