I've tried this soup before and think that it is great! I omited the tarragon in mine(I just am not found of this spice in soup or stews). Great recipe for a cold winter night- I also added some chopped green onions on top before serving!

I don't know what bizizizbee, or whoever this person is, was thinking. Wow. This is fabulous. My husband said that it was better than his mother's potato soup and that meant a lot. Thank you for a wonderful recipe!!!!

This is a great recipe. Even my 12-year old and his friend's liked it. I have a recipe for Corn and Cheddar Chowder that has some similarities to this one. You might enjoy it. I will post it.

Hi Treko; Made this marvelous Ultimate Potato Soup last night and what a big hit. I personally had 2 large bowls. I added one large leek to the soup and sautee'd with the onions. Great taste all around. Thanks for sharing this great recipe with us. "Uncle Bill"

Oh man, I tried this one last year. I should have commented then on how good it was. My family LOVED this. I want to add that I usually cannot stand potatoe soup, but I honestly couldn't put down my spoon. I made this with a garden salad and cornbread. You could serve this with a sandwich as well. Thanks for such a good potatoe soup recipe!!!!!!

Sign in or create an accountThis soup is GREAT! Best potato soup I've ever had. I can NEVER get my 2 year old son to eat any type of veggie. This soup did the trick. He had TWO bowls full! And even licked the bowl. I didn't use Tarragon or the Cilantro (forgot to get from the store.) I used Parsley to give it some green color instead. Couldn't taste it though. I also added three Carrots. I started by frying the bacon in a large frying pan. Following the directions from there. Then after frying potatoes I put into a large pot. At this time I added the carrots. Then followed the directions from there. GREAT SOUP! Thanks for posting!

This was a great soup! I added some broccoli, parsley, 2 more garlic cloves and cheddar, omitted the tarragon and used whole milk instead of some of the broth and heavy cream. I didn't get quite the thickness I wanted (I think I added more broth than I needed) so I added a bit of mashed potato flakes.

I was looking for a potato and bacon soup that resembled something I can occasionally buy from the cafeteria at work, so I tried this... and it's MUCH better! Thanks for posting.

"MOM, this soup is the BOMB"!!! (quote from my 17 year old and six of her friends who walked in as I was finishing this recipe)...it's a good thing I doubled this recipe or else I wouldn't have gotten a taste!! AWESOME, definitely a keeper, especially for the upcoming winter months. Thanks a million!

I was just going to post this recipe and saw it already here. This is definitely the best potato soup ever! Instead of the 1 cup heavy cream, I use 1 cup half and half *and* 1 cup milk for an even creamier soup. Since potatoes come in all sizes, (we grow our own) I use 8 cups cubed. Also added 5 cloves garlic.. Yum!

Oh yeah! This is a gooood one! The bacon and the drippings make it so tasty. I made a double batch but was short a few potatoes, so I used a bit of instant mashed flakes to thicken it up, and that worked like a treat! I will probably try this with sour cream instead of the cream next time... Thanks for a great soup!

I chose this recipe after scouring the internet for a potato soup recipe. Im glad I did! This soup is absolutly wonderful. Its a cross between a regular potato soup (liquidy) and a baked potato soup (thick and full of goodies). I left out the taragon because I didnt have any, and I used parsley instead of Cilantry because that is what I had on hand. I loved the taste and wouldnt change a thing next time. I served this with a hot crusty loaf of french bread and a green salad. My 12 y.o. daughter and husband raved all through dinner and asked that it be a keeper.

This was great. I left out the tarragon, not sure I like it, but it was wonderful. I think bizibizibee has no taste buds. Will make this again for sure
