  1. In a bowl, mix the heavy cream and milk together.
  2. In a saucepan mix--2 1/4 cups of the milk mixture and save the rest, white sugar, brown sugar, corn syrup and salt.
  3. Bring to a boil over medium heat stirring to dissolve sugar.
  4. Cook to soft ball stage.
  5. Gradually add remaining milk mixture maintaining boiling to firm ball stage.
  6. Remove from heat.
  7. Add vanilla and butter.
  8. Arrange pecans on greased wax paper in groups of four and spoon caramel over them quickly.
  9. Melt the chocolate bits slowly over hot water and then frost the caramel.
