Greetings! I'm a brand new member to Zaar. Without a doubt, this is the "best" recipe site on the net. I am in awe at the amount of wonderful things to cook and bake. I thought I would start out with one of my simple recipes. Here is an easy skillet meal to help use up all that leftover holiday turkey we all have. Of course, you can substitute chicken or pork also.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 1 cup coarsely chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or 1 tablespoon peanut oil
  • 1 cup diagonally sliced celery
  • 1 -2 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 cups diced cooked turkey
  • 1 (14 ounce) can Chinese vegetables, drained
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 12 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 1 -2 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce


  1. In a large skillet, cook onion in oil over medium heat about 5 minutes.
  2. Add celery and garlic and cook 5 minutes more.
  3. Add turkey, mixed vegetables, broth and peas; cover and cook 5 minutes.
  4. Mix remaining ingredients together and add to skillet.
  5. Turn heat up to medium high.
  6. Cook, stirring constantly 2 to 3 minutes until sauce is boiling and thickened.
  7. Serve over chow mein noodles with rice and additional soy sauce if desired.

This was a great way to use leftover turkey. I had added my frozen chunks to the pan and it worked great. I didn't have broth so used powdered bouillon with water. I doubled the recipe, too. This was was a real comfort meal. Thanks ugogirl, for posting. Roxygirl

Just the recipe I've been looking for when I want something quick and a little lighter. So far, I have made the recipe using turkey, then chicken, then pork and will next try shrimp as the meat component. So far, I've liked them all. I've added extra bean sprouts and sometimes a tbs. of molasses but the recipe is great as it is. Thanks for posting!

Excellent use of leftover turkey! In addition to onion, I used bok choy, celery, baby corn, water chestnuts, bean sprouts, pea pods and shredded carrots, and then made double the sauce. I also added about a T. of Chinese 5 Spice. My family ate it served over white rice. Delicious!
