Love this original recipe! We always added pretzels even though the original recipe didn't call for them. I see now on the Chex website they say bagel chips are part of the "Original" recipe...I think not LOL. I doubled the recipe and did find that a whole cup of butter was a bit much. I had to bake an additional 30 minutes since the mixture was still very moist at 1 hour. I used a 12.8 ounce box of Rice Chex and a 14 ounce box of Corn Chex which totalled about 17.5 cups of cereal. Maybe 3/4 cup of butter if doubling would work well. Thanks for sharing happy memories Wendy!

Thank you for posting this. This is the recipe I remember making for over 20 years but have been unable to duplicate the flavor since we losing the recipe several years ago. I always knew it was just W Sauce and Seasoned Salt with no other flavorings. The new recipes on the Chex cereal boxes that are "Original" are not as good with addition of Garlic and Onion powders. Our slight changes to the recipe is that we add Cheerios in addition the Chex Cereals & Pretzels. We are also generous in our W Sauce and Seasoned Salt spilling over to add a little extra flavor. We cook it in the microwave to speed up the process and it only takes about 8 min per batch. Cook it on high for 2 minutes, stir, cook another 2 min, stir, and keep repeating until you've cooked it a total 8 minutes. Let it cool about 30 min to an hour so the mix gets crispy and it's fabulous!!! It's a holiday tradition in our family to have Chex Mix on hand between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

This is the recipe that I remember from way back when! Originally, Chex did not add pretzels to the party mix -- that was a later addition. Newer recipes call for the addition of pretzels, but I have always preferred the non-pretzel variety. Thanks, Wendy!
