From www.TopSecretRecipes.com. Saw orange and strawberry but no pineapple. These are good, too! You can sub some or all of the water with milk for a richer flavor, but I like to keep the calories low. I found this recipe on some food blog or other but I have been advised that it may originally have come Top Secret Recipes. I cannot confirm or deny.
- 1 (8 ounce) can crushed pineapple in juice
- 1 cup water
- 2 egg whites
- 3⁄4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1⁄4 cup Splenda granular or 1⁄4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup crushed ice
- Combine all the ingredients in a blender set on high speed for 1 minute.
This was really delicious. I followed the recipe except that I used fresh pineapple and found the vanilla to be overpowering. I'm not sure I remember a vanilla taste in the original pineapple julius. Was afraid of using so much splenda, but the sweetness (6pkt=1/4C) was perfect. Think I'll try using "just whites" rather than a raw fresh egg and leave out the vanilla next time.
Both kids liked (teens). Used fresh pineapple. Thanks Little Wing! Roxygirl
Yummy breakfast this morning! I used coconut extract instead of vanilla for a tropical flavor and then used 1/4 c skim milk and 1/4 c. plain non fat yogurt for some added calcium and protein. Thanks, little_wing! :D
