Just add the eggs after you cream the butter & sugars (folks were asking) the other thing I would do differently than stated is add the vanilla before the nuts & chocolate. I also use M&Ms instead. Just my preference. Grew up w/this recipe. Love it. Thanks for posting so I don't have to go buy a Nestle bag!

Just resurrected this after a number of attempts at making cookies. You can't beat this one. Am saving it so I don't have to go hunting again!!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have been hunting for this recipe for a long time! I couldn't remember what I was missing. The SIFTING, (the water; or no water and change the flour to 2c and 2T) and I use only dark brown sugar. This is the recipe I grew up with learning to bake; and EATING!

Just like I remember them. I did add a half teaspoon of almond extract along with the vanilla. For a change of pace, after baking half the batch, I added half a cup of brandy soaked raisins. Let me know if you like it.

Wonderful as expected! I mixed up a half batch and made 6 cookies. Now I have the dough in my fridge to use as needed :) And I think I'll be needing more soon!

Wonderful cookies. Recipe forgot to list when to add the beaten eggs though, so I just added them after adding in the sugars. Thank you for sharing.

This has been my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe since I have been old enough to bake. The texture is always perfect and the chips are nice an gooey if you are lucky enough to get one fresh out of the oven. Always be sure to add some chopped walnuts to make these cookies absolutely perfect! Thanks for posting, Country-Wife!

I gave this 5 stars. My family loves chocolate chip cookies. I got my copy of this recipe the Toll House website. My copy is slightly different. It calls for 1/2 butter, 1/4 cup shortening, 1/2 cup each white and brown sugar, 2 tsp vanilla extract, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt and 2 cups chocolate chips. Rest is the same. The directions are slightly different it says to chill the dough 3 hours or up to 3 days. The bake time is different it says to bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes. Thanks for posting a yummy recipe. Very good! My hubby and brother-in-law thought they were the best ever. I usually use the newer toll house recipe on the package, but these were different and very good. Thin and crispy and light. I did add a little more flour later so they would hold up well on Christmas cookie plates.

I have tried a lot of other chocolate chip recipes over the years, but I always come back to this one. It is the best! My version did not include the teaspoon of water and suggested refrigerating the dough if it seemed too sticky. Also, I like to use my 2 tablespoon scoop for forming the cookies. I certainly enjoyed knowing the history of this recipe. Thank you.

I made a few changes: 1/2 of the butter I substituted palm oil and for the white sugar, I used Splenda. The kids still enjoyed. Thanks
