  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F; grease 13x9 inch baking pan.
  • In large mixing bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, walnuts, 6 tablespoons butter and baking soda; press firmly on bottom of prepared pan and bake 10-15 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • Meanwhile, in medium saucepan over medium heat, combine remaining 2 tablespoons butter and milk; cook and stir until mixture thickens slightly (about 15 minutes); remove from heat.
  • Stir in vanilla and pour evenly over baked crust.
  • Bake 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove from oven; immediately sprinkle chips on top.
  • Let stand 1 minute, spread chips evenly while still warm; garnish with additional walnuts if desired.
  • Cool completely.

  1. Delicious! I tossed all of the crust ingredients in my food processor and pulsed them until crumbly. Very easy, and very tasty. I was craving toffee, and this hit the spot. So much so, that my middle of the night snack was still on my cheek when I woke up this morning! Thanks!!
     
  2. Yum! I used a mix of almond and pecan in place of the walnuts. The base mixture was very dry and crumbly but did end up holding together ok once baked. A sweet treat thats nice with a cold glass of chockie milk :) Reviewed for PAC Fall 2007

I'm a single mother from NJ and I am a bake-a-holic. I love to bake ANYTHING; from cakes to cupcakes and cookies to bars, I really love it. I love creating new recipes or tweaking ones that I have to my own tastes. I have a HUGE number of 'bake'books and recipe cards that I have collected through the years. It wasn't until I was looking for a recipe (that I could ONLY find on Zaar, mind you)that I got completely hooked! We were getting SO tired of the same old baked chicken or spaghetti with tomato sauce from a jar. But now, with all these new recipes in my cookbooks, we're trying new (and TASTY!!!) things every day. I am SOOOO excited to finally have a place to put ALL my favorite recipes, as well as pick up some new ones. My most exciting discovery on Zaar was the crock-pot/slow-cooker recipes! We never used a crock-pot when I was growing up and I never understood why - I thought it was so easy, dump everything in before you leave for work and when you get home your dinner is ready and your house smells great (or so I've been told). But then I found out that 'back when I was growing up', there weren't that many recipes for crock-pots. But now that I found pages and PAGES of recipes on the Zaar, I'm investing in a crock-pot! Thanks to all of you who have posted FANTASTIC recipes! Other then that, I love doing crafts, mostly cross-stitching/embroidery and especially holiday crafts.
