Savoury, spicy, British breakfast dish. I doubt that you have eaten sausage prepared in this fashion.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 1 ounce butter
  • 1 lb sausage (links or sliced patties, seasoned with sage or other herbs, OR vegetarian sausages, seasoned to your)
  • 4 ounces flour
  • 1 egg (or equivalent egg substitute)
  • 10 ounces milk


  1. Pre-heat oven to 425 (220 C/ Gas 7).
  2. Place butter and sausages in a 10" x 12" roasting pan.
  3. Cook for 10 minutes, or until they are done to your liking.
  4. Sift the flour into a bowl.
  5. Break in the egg.
  6. Gradually add half the milk, beating to form a smooth batter.
  7. Pour in the remaining milk and beat until quite smooth.
  8. Alternatively, add the flour, milk and egg to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
  9. Pour the batter into the roasting pan and bake for 40-45 minutes, until the batter is well risen and golden.

This was easy to make and good although next time I make it I will serve it with something sweet like fruit. I really like the way it looked.

Easy and so tasty.Try it with a basic onion sauce. delicious, a real tummy filler. The kids loved it.

I did the British thing and poured some Bisto gravy over the cooked sausages. This was a hit at the Sunday breakfast table.
