I have made this several times, and everyone is surprised that a pot roast is so tasty. Everyone wants the recipe after they try it once. Around here, I was unable to find the mixes in 1 1/4 oz. size. I experimented with 1 1/2 packets, but then tried it with the one ounce packets, and the difference was unnoticable. I would recommend the 1 oz size if the other is not available in your area. Add vegies and your meal is complete. Please try, you will be happy you did.
I made this roast for a Sunday dinner & for Christmas last year and it was a big hit. I don't eat meat so appreciated a recipe that required minimal interaction. Everyone loved it so I am making it again this year. I used a 10lb roast.
I needed a "Crock Pot" recipe, because we had a day at the lake planned, and needed a meal that was ready when we returned. I was unsure about the envelopes of seasonings - gravy mix, Italian dressing and ranch. I usually don't use too many prepackaged products. The taste and texture of this roast was just wonderful, actually "To Die For". Seriously, I will use this recipe again and again. Just personal preference, I combined the packets and rubbed them over the large eye of round roast and then browned it in a little olive oil. Before placing in the crockpot I put in 5-6 chunked up carrots, 2 onions, sliced, and some flat leaf parsley. Oh, yes, and two garlic cloves, smashed. There was leftover seasoning that I just sprinkled over the whole mess before I added the 1/2 cup white wine ('cause that was all I had, next time I'll try a cab) instead of water. The gravy was so flavorful, after the roast was cooked, I put the liquid in the crockpot into a sauce pan with a little corn starch (slurry) and used my stick blender to smooth it out, then heated it up to thicken. Everyone really enjoyed it - served it with Mashed red potatoes with Garlic and Parm. and Bruschetta and the Lemon Pie Cake. Very easy - but it didn't taste like it!
Wow!!! This is the best Pot Roast that I have ever had!!!! The only thing that I did differently was add chopped onions, celery, and carrots. I plan on making this meal again and again :)
It was okay but just not for me. I am going to try it again but this time I'll use the brown gravy mix and a pkg of onion soup mix.
Roast beef is my husband's favorite dish, and he never thought I'd top his mother's...til he tried this one! It was absolutely fantastic, and he RAVED about the gravy made right in the pot. I used the whole packets of the dressing and it didnt come out too salty for us. I was taught to cover a pot roast in water, so I added too much (3 cups instead of 1/2), but next time I'll definitely cut down to how much the recipe suggests. Thank you so much for sharing!
I have prepared alot or roasts. This rates as one of the best! I used a 4.5 pound beef roast. Added the seasonings and water, then filled my slow cooker with red potatoes, carrots, celerly, onions and mushrooms. Cooked for about 9 hours;everything came out tender and tasted great. Very nice and simple recipe....Thanks for sharing
Excellent roast and gravy! A tad salty for my taste. Next time will reduce ranch as suggested.
this was the most delicious pot roast I have ever had! I only used half of the ranch dressing which was a perfect amount of saltiness. AWESOME recipe!
