The Saucy Senoritas' Salsa

"The name alone has you wanting some, doesn't it? The contributors are: Boomette (France) - I suggest adding jalapeno cause I can be spicy sometimes (and HOT!) Evelyn/Athens - I suggest adding mango because I love the tart/sweet element it would add - and that's me basically...ask my students. TheGrumpyChef - I suggest onion, 'cause sometimes I cry for no good reason at all! Galley Wench - I'll add cumin, for "Spicy" Bellinda - You either hate us or love us ('us' being me and garlic) Sue L - cilantro - because when I shower, I always come out fresh and even have a hint of soapiness Slatts - I would like to add a red bell pepper to our salsa because the color reminds me of love and caring. Virginia Cherry Blossom - I am most like lime juice because I have a sweet smell (nice) but I have a tarty taste (honest) - I bring out the best in people and salsa Breezermom - tomato, because I make everything more colorful and bright! Queen Dana - I'm like olive oil because I'm silky and full of good fat."

directions

  • In a medium bowl, combine all the ingredients and toss with your very clean fingers to distribute everything. Looks and smells delicious, right? You can't wait to have some RIGHT NOW? Hold on a little bit longer: to blend the flavors, refrigerate for about 30 minutes before serving.
  • Serve with your favourite grilled meat/fish/seafood or with tortilla 'dippers' for a healthier, flavour-to-the-max alternative to what you're used to.

  1. DELICIOUS! Wow! This is difficult to stop sampling! It's extremly well balanced in terms of sweet, hot, spicy, colorful, tropical, traditional, classic, and fun! Made as directed. This is now my go-to salsa! Thanks, Saucy Senoritas - you've truly made the world a better place! Made for ZWT5, Kitchen Witches.

  2. Fresh is what comes to mind if I'd have to put this salsa into one word. It was very garden-y flavored yet the mango and avocado make it tropical at the same time - it really has complex flavors! I love the extra kick from the cayenne pepper! Makes a rather large quantity and would easily feed more than 4. I used red and orange mini bell peppers and added two chipotle peppers in adobo sauce (which adds a whole other dimension, wow!). I'd make again! Made for ZWT5.

  3. Followed the recipe exactly except used fresh oregano in place of dried and decreased the amt of cilantro to about 1 tbsp (which was enough for my taste). I have to say that this was very good and savory, but the mango was not quite right for me and I am a HUGE mango fan. I picked it out and now I am eating the rest of the salsa which is a very good, basic, savory salsa. THANKS!

  4. Gran trabajo, Senoritas Descarados! (Great job, Saucy Senoritas!) I used about 1 and 1/2 cups of diced mango, 1/2 avocado, 1 tomato, part of a yellow pepper, 2 tablespoons jalapeno, 1/3 cup of cilantro, and 2 tablespoons of red onion. I used the suggested amount of garlic, salt, cumin, oregano, pepper, lime juice, and oil. Served with recipe#302791 for a wonderful lunch. Made for Salsa Challenge during ZWT5 for the Chow Hounds.

  5. Very yummy and different salsa. I wasn't sure about the cumin & oregano - however I did enjoy it. I felt it needed a bit more salt- so added some garlic salt to it. My husband & I really enjoyed it. Thanks made for ZWT5.

I moved out here many, many years ago from Ottawa, Canada - so I am blessed in having two wonderful heritages! I suffer from compulsive obsessive behaviour with regard to food and my psychiatrist thought it would be a good idea to find a 'society' where many have the same problem and try to find a cure. So far, I've copied a couple of thousand recipes from this site and my psychiatrist has thrown the towel in and refuses to answer the phone when I call. What did I do wrong? Got 3 kids that keep me on the go - 10 and under at this point (2008) - I may not get round to updating this for a few years, so you'll have to do your own maths. I teach English full-time and Greek Cookery part-time. I would like to make the cooking part of it full-time and the English Grammar part of it part-time. That's all for now.
