The Meatloaf With the Sauce!

Total Time
Prep 10 mins

Hubby and I have an ongoing feud over meatloaf - my saucy version vs. his Italian version. Since meatloaf is one of the few entrees he knows how to make, I don't complain when he makes his...but I definitely prefer this one!

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9x12 Pyrex dish.
  2. Place the eggs, tomato sauce, onion, celery, worcestershire, salt and pepper in blender and blend until smooth.
  3. Put meat, bread crumbs and blender mixture in a large bowl. Combine by hand until well incorporated.
  4. Press into baking dish, leaving a 1/2" moat around the meatloaf for the sauce.
  5. Combine sauce ingredients in the blender and pour over all over meatloaf.
  6. Bake for 50 minutes or until done.

First, let me say that the smell coming out of the oven was absolutely irresistable! I was literally drooling while waiting for this to come out of the oven. DS is not an onion fan, so I reduced the onions a bit. However, the meatloaf still tasted quite "oniony". My sauce turned out very thin, so I'd eliminate the water next time. The smell deserves 5 stars, but the poll around the table was 3 & 4 stars for the meatloaf and sauce.

My husband and I would give this 5 stars, but since the kids wouldn't eat it, I'm giving it 4 stars. I thought the flavor was very nice, and subtle, but the kiddos declared it was too oniony. I think most kids would be fine with this recipe - mine were probably just in a mood tonight. Thanks for an easy to make recipe!

This was a very nice meatloaf and the sauce went so well with it. The seasoning was just right for us. I did have to use more breadcrumbs than stated to get a good consistency. We really enjoyed this and look forward to sandwiches using the leftovers. Thanks
