I did this differently, always looking for a shortcut. I browned 6 breasts the laid them in a single layer in the crockpot, put a cup of Teriyaki marinade (couldn't find basting sauce at the store) and then put on the layer of ranch. Cooked about 3 hours on low and in the final 10 minutes covered the top with cheddar cheese. Hmmmmm, it was so delicious and tasted like a meal you would get at a bistro. I can't wait until next time when I will add the onions and mushrooms I just didn't have at the time.

The flavors in this dish are amazing! I used chopped fresh baby portabello mushrooms which I sauteed in the oil after removing the chicken. I also used 5 strips of crumbled turkey bacon instead of bacon bits. I will definitely be making this one again.

My first reaction was teriyaki sauce w/ranch dressing? But, after all the great reviews I had to give it a try. The basting sauce was difficult to find, but I found a thick 'grill sauce' that seemed to work well. This was really delicious! Next time I'll use fresh mushrooms and real crumbled bacon. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing! Update: It's been nearly 4 years since I rated this recipe and I still make it at least once a month. This is a real keeper.

This was really good. Followed the recipe other then I didn't add onions as my kids don't like them. Will make again. Made as part of the All New Zaar Cookbooks Tag.

When my husband comments on how good a dish is three times while eating it, I know I've stumbled upon something! I used Soy Vay Teriyaki Sauce, which is thick and really quite good by itself, fresh mushrooms (preference) gently sauteed after the chicken, and this turned out fantastically. Leftovers tonight! Thanks for an easy, tasty recipe!

Very tasty recipe. I made this with chicken tenders and omitted the mushrooms. My fiance was very pleased with this dish as well. I will definitely make this yummy chicken again. It was great served with rice!

I thought this was OK. I wasn't too keen on the teriyaki sauce, but maybe I didn't use a good brand.

If I could never have chicken any other way than this, I would be very happy. This had such a great flavor the family wants it once a week. I think as a variation I will slice the chicken breasts into strips before browning then cook accordingly and serve it in tortilla's, fajita style. We ended up using a honey-sesame teriyaki basting sauce because it has a BBQ sauce thickness to it. What a great recipe. Thanks Tabby

I was really intrigued by the list of ingredients. We thoroughly enjoyed it. My BF thought it had an Oriental flavor. Instead of using bacon bits, I fried up some bacon and then used the grease to brown the chicken. I think the brand of teriyaki sauce you use makes a big difference. I stood in the grocery aisle and shook the bottles until I found the one with the thickest consistency.

My son loved this dish but I found that it was not quite to my liking. May have been the brand of Teriyaki sauce I used. Will make again for my son though.

This rocks! I cut it in half for my husband and I and wish I hadn't! I agree, fresh mushrooms would be good. It didn't take me 30 minutes to prep, which is a good thing! Makes a real, Applebees or Ground Round-type presentation.

Delicious! Wonderful flavor, and the chicken was very moist. I also used fresh mushrooms, but I'm sure it would be just as good with canned. Thanks Tabbycat. This will definitely be a family favorite!

I had my doubts....teriyaki and ranch dressing????? But this was great!! Absolutely a "do-again" Used fresh mushrooms (won't use canned-blech!) make sure you put them under the cheese so they don't get too dry. Great flavor....everybody loved it....and had seconds!

This was really good. The only thing I would do differently next time, would be to marinate the chicken in the terriyaki sauce for an hour or so first. Our chicken was a little on the dry side, but the overall taste of this was fantastic.

I was looking for a different chicken recipe and found this saved to my recipe file. The ingredients looked busy, but I followed it aust the same. It was quite wonderful and even better the next day. After assessing potential alterations to the recipe I do want to note that the green onions are crucial to the amazing blend of flavors.
