The Bestest Butter Cookies (Rolled)

Total Time
Prep 15 mins
Cook 8 mins

My mother in law has been making these for Christmas for years and years. I make them for all holidays, using different cookie cutters for whatever occasion. They are the best when they are frosted, but sometimes I just sprinkle on colored sugar before baking. I call them "Play Dough" cookies because that's what the dough smells like to me! (Don't worry, they don't taste like Play Dough :) Chilling time is not included.

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Cream butter and sugar well.
  2. Add egg and vanilla and beat well.
  3. Combine baking powder and flour.
  4. Add gradually to creamed mixture.
  5. Chill until firm.
  6. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  7. Roll out dough to about 1/4" thickness and cut into desired shapes.
  8. Bake for 6 to 8 minutes.
  9. When cool, decorate with frosting or icing if desired.

These were delicious-buttery rich and not too crisp. One of the best cut out cookie recipes I've tried, if not the best! Thanks!

This cookie was nice to enjoy with a cup of tea, I left mine plain and we iced my daughters batch. My folks tried them too and said they were lovely. A good basic recipe. Thankyou.
