Definitite 5-star. I didn't have any frozen peas so I used about 1/2 cup chopped red pepper that I added near the end of sauteeing the vegetables. I think this is an improvement over the peas. I also added some chopped celery. I would recommend more of the Essence mixture and more olive oil. It was great reheated in the microwave the next day, too.
So good, so flavorful. Love being able to take leftovers and transform them into something different.
LilyLove, the recipe calls for 1/4 teaspoon of the "Essence" or Cajun seasoning. The recipe for the "Essence" called for Tablespoons of different seasonings, but after mixing that all up (unless you just bought it already mixed up), the Shepherd's Pie recipe called for just 1/4 teaspoon of that mixture.
This recipe would have been beyond amazing had it not suggested to add TABLESPOONS of each seasoning! I'm wondering if I did something wrong? It came out waaay too salty and spicy- any advice?
Oh wow, was this good! My mom sent me home with a ton of turkey from Thanksgiving and I also had a lot of mashed potatoes to use up. This did the trick and was delicious! I used a creole seasoning that I had in place of the essence mixture. I also subbed about 1 cup of vegetable stock and the rest chicken stock because I already had them open in those proportions. I used a mix of mushrooms. I will definitely make this recipe again. We loved it!
For added flavor, substitute your own homemade turkey stock for the canned chicken broth!
What a fantastically simple recipe to follow, and a GREAT way to use up leftovers!! I didn't have any carrots on hand, so I substituted some celery instead. Instead of using 1/2 cup of peas, I used 1/4 cup of peas and 1/4 cup of corn. I didn't have enough cheddar cheese on hand, so I used 1/2 cheddar and 1/2 swiss. Very delicious!!
Great leftover dish. I did add some celery to the mix since I had those in with my leftovers. The flavor was great, and easy to put together.
This was great and soooo easy, I am doing it again after Christmas. Loved it
