Texas Homemade BBQ Sauce

"This is the basically the same recipe as my Recipe#135656 OAMC BBQ Sauce but in this one I give you instructions and ingredients for a much smaller quantity, 6 cups (1 1/2 quarts) instead of gallons! lol There have been so many arguments started over whose has the best sauce- but we all know Mama's is best! lol"

  1. Well darlin', every TEXAS BBQ sauce (as per the name of this recipe) darn sure starts with tomato sauce - further East they start it with apple cider vinegar - but that's the great thing about local cuisine! Great recipe! I bet the type of ketchup used makes a difference too. Thanks!!

  2. I grew up in Texas on a ranch near Austin. This recipe produces nothing resembling BBQ sauces I grew up, with. For one, ketchup has no place in BBQ sauce. I gave the recipe a chance and made it exactly as written. No one in my family liked it. The ketchup toast remains strong in the finished sauce.

  3. If you are looking for a real Texas style sauce, this is it. I've never been a fan of the very sweet Kansas City sauces, or the overly vinegary Georgia style sauces. They are okay on pork, but really not good on beef, and they always make me feel a bit of nausea. This sauce has balance and is good on every smoked meat I have tried it on.

  4. I have gotten recipes from this website for the last year and never felt the need to comment. I joined as a member just to say, tomato sauce does not belong in bbq sauce. Take out the tomato sauce and add some vinegar and this recipe wouldn't be too bad. I read several comments on this same recipe (in the larger serving size) and couldn't believe how many people raved about it. I'm Italian and know when tomato's should not be! I lived in Georgia for almost ten years and I know good bbq sauce. This is not it!
