  1. in large mixing bowl, combine flour and sugar.
  2. in heavy saucepan, combine butter,shortening,coffee and cocoa.
  3. stir and heat to boiling.
  4. pour boiling mixture over the flour and sugar in bowl.
  5. add buttermilk,eggs,baking soda& vanilla.
  6. mix will,using wooden spoon or on high sprrd electric mixer.
  7. pour into well buttered 85 1/2 by 11 inch jelly roll pan.
  8. bake at 400F degrees for 20 minutes or until brownies test done in center.
  9. while brownies bake, prepare the frosting.
  10. in saucepan,combine butter,cocoa and milk.
  11. heat to boiling,stirring.
  12. mix in powdered sugar and vanilla stir until smooth.
  13. pour warm frosting over brownies as soon as you take them out of the oven.
  14. cool.

This recipe is easy and delicious! You don't taste the coffee. They are moist and easy to handle. A big hit with the family and with the kids at school. Next time I would probably add some pecans on top on half the pan. Thanks for this one!

Always a wonderful addition to any party!! I use buttermilk in the frosting also & top with nuts!! This one is a favorite in our circle. I make this for EVERY occassion.

This is very moist and tasty...however, after following the recipe exactly, I came out with more of a cake than brownies. Also, even though I greased my pan very well, it still was very difficult to get them out and broke most of them. Overall, this is really quite a good CAKE recipe, but if it's chewy brownies you're looking for, this may not be the one for you.
