This is not a tequila slammer. This is just simply a classic tequila shot. A tequila slammer is 1 part tequila and 1 part lemon-lime soda (like 7-up or sprite). Fill the glass with just about 1/5 empty, cover the top of the glass with your hand or a cloth and slam the glass on the table (hence tequila slammer). The slam mixes the two and the soda creates a fizz. Then you take it all in one gulp like a shot. A splash of grenadine is also optional.

I have only had these with lime also. It's a good way to get rid of most of the aftertaste of the tequila. Also a good way to get really drunk and have a case of temporary amnesia! Thanks for bringing back some (foggy) memories!

Nope, you're doing it wrong. Has to be with a LIME!! LOL I haven't had this in years, but i loved them in college. This was the "sit down" drink; purple passion was for outside running around.

Just rememberd a few drunken madisms when I came upon this so I thought I share them. A south african friend I meet in Amsterdam told me how they drink it: 1)snort the salt up the nose. 2)drink the tequila 3)squeeze the lemon in your eye. ouchh Here in sweden theer is a similar version named after over tennis champ Bjorn Borg. 1) Snort the salt. 2) drink the booze. 3) serve the lemon across the room.(and hope it won´t hit anybody or you might be in trouble) the south african version wins in my opinion, but I don´t think I will ever try either one. Had T slammers for the first time a few weeks ago, the barmaid was out of lemon after awhile so she gave us orange, I actually preferred it or did I can´t really remember ; )
