I make this every time we have fish sandwiches. It tastes just like Mc Donald's so if you love their fish sandwiches you'll enjoy this. Another great copycat from Todd Wilbur.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 59.16 ml Hellmann's mayonnaise
  • 19.71 ml heinz sweet pickle relish
  • 19.71 ml finely minced white onions (no substitutions)
  • 0.5 ml salt

Directions

  1. Combine mayonnaise, sweet relish, minced onion, and salt in a small bowl.
  2. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Chill for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to blend.
  4. Remove from fridge about 10 minutes before serving and stir well.
  5. Tip; If making sandwiches, add even more Mc Donald's flavor by lightly toasting cut sides of regular hamburger buns in a dry, nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.
  6. Watch closely so they do not burn.
  7. Melt a slice of American cheese atop a piece of cooked, breaded fish {Mrs. Paul's works well} and assemble sandwich.

This does NOT taste like McDonald's tartar sauce. McDonald's tartar sauce isn't this sweet or this bland. I'm going to attempt to make tartar sauce again in the future using dill relish instead of the sweet, some of the juice from the pickles, and maybe some lemon juice and prepared mustard and see if I can obtain better results. Sorry. :(

I tasted and tasted McDonald's tarter sauce and I know they used dill, relish it isn't sweet. I asked for and they gave me some extra. I made my version using Best Food (Hellmans) and Vlasic Dill Relish. My family could not tell the difference in a blind taste test. So simple and so right.
