This recipe is from my Aunt Kitty. The ideas of adding cumin came from Iron Bloomers! Thanks, Barb

I was excited to see this recipe because at first glance it appeared to be similar to a dressing served on a tostada compuesta ("hot salad") from a no longer existing Spanish restaurant in my hometown. Upon making this dressing, I found it to be sweet, like a French dressing.(my has a cup of sugar)This dressing is easy to prepare, with a slightly tangy, gently spiced sweetness. All the family style Mexican restaurants around here seem to put squeeze bottles of French dressing on the table so perhaps that's how it got its name. I got distracted and simmered this slightly longer than 15 minutes, and it was just fine. This dressing also got raves and recipe requests at a recent brunch I had-- quite a success. I would highly recommend this recipe to others. Thanks!
