This has been handed down at least 3 generations and is the best sauce I have ever tasted! It makes great ribs and sloppy joes!
- Mix together thoroughly.
- Note: This is enough sauce for 1 large rack of ribs or 2 pounds of hamburger meat.
I've used this sauce many times on cooked meatballs. It provides a sweet, tangy sauce and cooks down to a nice thick sauce. It does great in a crockpot.
I was looking for a recipe similar to my moms and this was it. I doubled it and only made one change and that was adding a tablespoon of worchestershire sauce as this is how I think my mom makes it. We almost fought over the leftovers. Update Feb '08 I just made this again and it was way too sweet. I wonder if the first time I made it I doubled everything except the sugar. I'm making it again tomorrow with half the sugar and I think that will be perfect.
I was looking for a sweet BBQ sauce for pork loin - I was out of bottled. This was actually too sweet for our tastes and we usually prefer sweet BBQ. We added some red pepper flakes, garlic powder, onion flakes and chili powder which gave the flavor more character but still too sweet.
