Sweet Soy-Glazed Chicken Wings

  1. For the chicken:.
  2. Place brown sugar, soy sauce, sake or sherry, and garlic in a large resealable plastic bag and stir to combine.
  3. Add chicken, seal (pressing out excess air), and turn the bag to coat the chicken evenly.
  4. Place in the refrigerator and marinate, turning occasionally, for at least 2 hours or up to 12 hours.
  5. Heat the broiler to high and arrange a rack in the middle of the oven. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and set a wire rack over the foil.
  6. Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting any excess drip off, and arrange in a single layer on the rack. (Try not to let the wings touch.) Discard the marinade.
  7. Broil the chicken until the meat starts to pull away from the bones and the skin is a deep golden brown, bubbling, and crisped, about 12 minutes. Remove from the oven and, using tongs, flip the wings over. Return to the oven and continue broiling until the skin is a deep golden brown, bubbling, and crisped on the second side, about 12 minutes more.
  8. Meanwhile, prepare the sauce.
  9. For the sauce:.
  10. Place all ingredients except cornstarch-water mixture in a small saucepan and stir to combine.
  11. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  12. Reduce heat to low and simmer until sauce has reduced to about 1/2 cup, about 10 minutes.
  13. Add cornstarch mixture, whisk to combine, and cook until sauce has thickened, about 1 minute.
  14. Transfer to a large heatproof bowl.
  15. To serve:.
  16. Add cooked wings to the sauce and toss to combine.
  17. Transfer to a serving dish and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds. Serve immediately.

Yummy wings!!! I like the buffalo wings, as long as they aren't too spicy, but really love wings like this recipe, so good!! I made 1 lb of wings and made 1/3 of the marinade and sauce, which worked out well. Loved the flavor of the wings, along with the crispy skin. Next time I will cook these wings on the grill, it really smoked up my house from the high broiling and fat from the skin of thee wings, but all is fine now with opening the windows and airing out the house. Best wings I have had in a very long time -- I could definitely skip those buffalo-style wings or maybe make a batch of each. Loved the flavors and the fact that they are broiled and not fried. DH has eaten so many, I have lost count. These babies are going into my Best of 2013 Cookbook. This is my first completion for the New Year and it is definitely a winner of a recipe! Made for Everyday is a Holiday tag, January, 2013.

Alligirl you have a winner here for sure. I scaled it back for 8 wings but it wasn't till after I am reviewing I realized the weight issue of the wings - mine weiged nearly 1.4K before I cut of the tips (just over 3lb - ours must be jumbos) that I should have made the full recipe but it was still very delicious. I did bake them in the oven rather that grill/broil at 175C fan forced for about 45 minutes for succulent crispy wings. Thank you alligirl, made for Everyday A Holiday.
