This is how my family has always prepared strawberries. Either to put on shortcake or just to eat plain. A southern delicacy! Thanks for posting!

I grew up on this recipe! I've found that adding just a little vanilla flavor gives it a slightly more sophisticated taste.

This must be what the gods eat. How bad is it that I eat this plain?

Since Strawberry Shortcake is one of New England's best known and favorite desserts, and has been around since the middle 1800's, I would have to say this recipe is a Northern recipe too, as we used this recipe to make Strawberry Shortcake. It's been a family favorite in my family for many generations too :)

This topping is good on all kinds of sweets, and is the only way that I prepare my strawberries for strawberry shortcake. It is one of those good old-fashioned classic staples. Thank you for sharing.

My grandmother, mother and aunts all prepare strawberries this way and we've loved them for years. Today, I used about 1 1/2 cups of strawberries and a little less than 1/4 cup sugar to test it out for strawberry shortcake. Low-fat whipped cream on top and we have a nice, easy dessert for dinner that everyone loves. Thanks for sharing... I had forgotten how much I lvoed these.

I've been eating strawberries prepared this way all my life. Right now, the market strawberries are pretty good, but I always look forward to summer when we get the locally grown berries. This is the greatest over breakfast waffles, Belgian waffles with whipped cream (or a "slice" of vanilla ice cream). YUMMY!! Nothing beats this for ease of prep, and the taste....not to mention the nutritional value of strawberries. A piece of HEAVEN! Edit: Looks like I should have read other review first, but alas, great minds to think alike!

This recipe is SOOOOO good. With splenda you still get that sweet taste of sugar with less carbs! I could eat my weight in these! :)

Yep, the way I do it all the time. I have gone to splenda instead these days, and it works just as well.

Wow! I do this all the time but I never thought of writing it down in a recipe! This is my favorite way to fix strawberries, since it's so easy. I like to have mine with milk or vanilla ice cream.
