Sweet-Sour Red Cabbage Salad

The recipe comes from my German grandmother. I like it,since it is refreshing in summer and taste good with all kind of poultry.

Made as written with the addition of slightly more onion (used a red one). Just perfect. Have made it twice now with same results.

  1. Cook bacon until crips; crumble.
  2. Measure 3 teaspoons of bacon fat into skillet.
  3. Stir in remaining ingredients,leaving out cabbage.
  4. Cook mixture over medium heat,stirring constantly,until mixture is smooth and clear.
  5. Cool to room temperature.
  6. Put cabbage into salad bowl.
  7. Pour cooled dressing over it.
  8. Add crumbled bacon.
  9. Chill.
