  1. Slice the onions.
  2. Put sliced onions into large non-reactive saucepan over moderately-high flame.
  3. Add vinegar, sugar, catsup, salt and the water.
  4. Cover and bring to a boil; reduce to a low flame and simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. Combine cornstarch with an additional 1/4 cup water; mix well and stir into saucepan.
  6. Heat and; stir until thickened remove from heat and serve.

Simple, healthy, and so tasty! I halved the recipe and used 4 medium sized onions. I had to use white vinegar since it was the only kind I had, but I bet this tastes even better with apple cider vinegar! The instructions in this recipe are perfect, and so are the ingredient amounts. This is one fabulous one-veggie side that I will make often! Thanks Ocean~Ivy!

I followed recipe exactly and it tasted very bland. I look for easy to fix veggie dishes like this but I will not try this one again.

Tasty! I used balsamic vinegar cause that was what I had. We had it over grilled veggie chicken patties and brown rice. Not sure if I was able to get it as thick as expected...I am not a gourmet chef. But my family seemed to like it. Thanks.
