This is an excellent recipe, provided that you cut every ingredient in half EXCEPT the sweet potatoes. Otherwise, it is way too sweet and way too rich. You will also find that half the topping is sufficient. This recipes is known as Senator Russell's Sweet Potatoes in a Taste of the South cookbook my mother has. I like to add a little orange juice and grated orange grind to give it taste beyond just "sweet." Thank you for posting!

My Daughter absolutely loves this one. She would like me to make it every day if I would. Getting ready to make it for my son's preschool Thanksgiving Feast.

We have had almost the same recipe EVERY Thanksgiving and Christmas -- called Senator Russell's Sweet Potatoes !! We don't add the cinnamon, since it is already extremely sweet, and only use 1/4 cup melted butter. A note -- 3 pounds of potatoes equals about 2 cups.

Delicious! I made this casserole for Christmas and it was the highlight of the meal. Everybody raved about it. I don't even like sweet potatoes and even I loved it. I would highly recommend this recipe. (I used canned yams in light syrup, so I reduced the amount of sugar to 1/2 cup).

Very good. I was looking for a dish to make for Thanksgiving and this came out wonderful. Even the people that said they didn't loke sweet potatos liked this. It was so sweet it almost tasted like a pie.
