This is a recipe I have been using for many years. Wonderful for sweet and sour ribs or great served over meatballs. The recipe came from my sister-in law many years ago.
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1⁄2 cup ketchup
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 small onion
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 3 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch, in about
- 1⁄4 cup water (approximate)
- boil together then thicken with cornstarch to desired thickness.
Delicious and easy! I made a half batch to perk up some leftovers. Nice balance of flavors! I'd love to try it next with meatballs! Thank you!!
Like Merlot I made this sweet and sour sauce to pour over meatballs for an appetizer. I made up three varieties of mini meatballs for the holidays. After making and oven baking It's Me -Toolbelt's Appetizer Meatballs, I put a dozen to a large soup bowl, poured over sauce to cover. After cooling in the fridge I then froze them. They reheated beautifully. The seving dish emptied so quickly that when refilling I barely had time to heat and add the cocktail picks! This sauce is great on both chicken and ribs, it is now defintely in my appetizer cookbook as well. Thank you Dotty.
This has great flavor and and the lemon juice gave this sauce a nice "zing" to it! Is nice and runny so it goes oes well with white rice.
