Super Spicy Boiled Peanuts

"You cant get boiled peanuts up where im at currently(upstate NY) and I love boiled peanuts and extremely spicy food . So here is my version of these"

 

• Ready In: 3hrs 10mins
• Ingredients: 7
• Yields: 2 lbs. boiled peanuts
• Serves: 10

ingredients

• 2 lbs raw peanuts, in shell (green ones are best but hard to find up north)
• water, about 4 quarts
• 2 tablespoons cayenne pepper
• 1⁄4 cup crushed red pepper flakes
• 6 -10 whole black peppercorns
• 6 garlic cloves, peeled left whole
• 1⁄4 cup salt (kosher is best)

directions

1. Add all ingredients to a large pot
2. stir well.
3. set on high heat to boil.
4. once boiling reduce heat to a low simmer
5. simmer until soft usually about 3 hours stir occasionally.

Tastes like protien, in a good way! Never tasted peanuts cooked like this before. Cooked per instructions, omitting the cayenne pepper, afraid that this would be too much heat for other people that would be eating this. Turns out it was very mild. Wish I had added the cayenne now.<br/>After looking at a youtube video on the subject I learned that you may have to boil the peanuts 4 to 7 hours and they suggested much more salt!!! I am not personally adverse to salt, love it, but...<br/>I had to look online to find out how to deal with the peanuts after cooking, not sure if I needed to pop the nuts or what.<br/>I found out you need to refrigerate after cooking and the best way to enjoy them after refrigeration is to microwave them to enjoy eating warm.<br/>I ended up cooking the peanuts for 6 hours, after tasting them every 2 hours, and I think they taste marvelous, no extra salt needed here. Deliciously spicy! I omitted the cayenne pepper, used only 1T red pepper. They turned out a very nice hotness. I can't imagine the full dose! I'm from Syracuse, NY and these are my first taste of boiled peanuts! After tasting these, I decided I like roasted peanuts better. I tossed my pre-shelled boiled spanish peanuts in the oven for about 10 min and now they're incredibly delicious (five stars)! I won't officially rate this recipe since I'm evidently not a fan of boiled peanuts.
