I have been working on this recipe for a long time and I love where it is right now. It's a little extra work, but totally worth it (imho!) Note about the second ingedient: I had to put 'oats' on there because 'Zaar doesn't know what 'whole grains' are... just use any grain you want, in any combination. I get whole grains at the natural foods store in the bulk bins, they are quite cheap that way. If you have any suggestions I would love to know... :)

Ingredients Nutrition

Directions

  1. In a blender, grind up flax (if you have whole seeds) and grains to a flour-like texture. If using flax seed meal, add it to the next step.
  2. Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl. Mix well.
  3. In separate bowl, combine wet ingredients.
  4. Add wet to dry and mix until moist.
  5. Cook in preheated waffle iron.
  6. Enjoy!

This is not your average Eggo waffle, so keep that in mind. I love the grainy texture that the whole wheat and 7-grain cereal adds to this. My suggestion though is to blend the dry ingredients in the blender first, then blend with your milk and then spoon in your eggs. This helps ensure a "smoother" texture on your whole grains so they aren't as jagged. I also have to make substitutions when I make recipes-I love using coconut oil for its health benefits. Yummy recipe.

I used ground-up oats and flaxseeds. One son said, "Mom, I don't mean to be rude, but these taste kinda funny." He ate about half a waffle. My husband said they tasted like sand going down. I thought they were OK with peanut butter and syrup.
