"Cannot remember who gave me this recipe, but it makes a moist bread that I love. You can use different applesauces to change the flavor and texture. I like the chunky kind! Makes 2 loaves"

  1. I made this yesterday and it is delicious! I wanted to make banana bread but didn't have any ripe bananas so searched to make a bread with something that I did have. I had apple sauce! Three of us like it and one didn't because he was expecting banana bread. It almost has a pineapple vibe. I can see where it would be good with whipped cream and a dusting of cinnamon. And... I checked it at 1 hr. 10 min. and it was done! 1 hr. and 20 min. would be TOO long.

  2. I baked this recipe in two 9x5 loaf pans, baking 1 hour 15 min at 350 degrees. It turned out very moist, and I served the slices topped with whipped cream, which added quite a bit to the flavor. I've only baked this recipe one time, and I used sour cream. I used 1 1/2 cups sugar. Maybe I should have used the full 2 cups sugar.

  3. I made this recipe with Splenda and cinnamon. The bread itself was delicious but I couldn't get the time baking it quite right. I made a pan of muffins, baked 40 minutes, that were perfect. But I also made a loaf of bread, baked an hour and 5 minutes at 350, that was brown outside and but not done inside. Still gave it four stars because it was tasty, but watch your oven time when you make it.

  4. This is excellent and easy bread. Very moist and terrific flavor. I made sour milk with milk and vinegar to use in place of the buttermilk. I also used cinnamon instead of the pumpkin pie spice. My applesauce was regular unsweetened and skipped the optional nuts. I baked in three 8 x 4 foil pans and they were done in about 40-45 minutes. I think 1 hour and 20 minutes might be too long for 9 x 5 pans, so if you use that size, please keep an eye on them. Thanks for posting...I'll definitely make this again and again.

My name is Amy and I live in CT. I love to cook and try new recipes. My kitchen is my favorite room in my house and where I spend most of my time! Both my parents were always cooking, mom baked and dad did everything except baking. Some of my recipes come from my grandmother, Nell, but have been updated. The rest fly out of my head in the middle of the night...or are things I have seen in magazines, cookbooks and on TV twisted around to my liking. I find it hard to follow a recipe, but I am trying to do that without changing them all the time.
