Ha! We called this Fairy Bread at a Montessori school I worked at. We would use all sorts of different sugar sprinkles... Shhh. Don't tell their parents! Everyone knows Montessori teachers only feed their kids brussel sprouts and all that other brain food... My oldest (4) won't touch Fairy Bread with a ten foot pole. He doesn't know what he's missing out on!

This brought back wonderful childhood memories! I was the baby in the family and someone was always making this for me! White bread is a MUST for this recipe (tee hee)! Thanks for posting.

I made this often as a kid too. I loved to toast the bread, butter it and sprinkle it with cinnamon, sugar and sometimes honey too! The melting butter on the hot bread melds together with the sugar.

Wow this brings back memories from childhood! I used to love a good sugar sandwich on store-bought white bread! Thanks for reiminding me of something I haven't thought of in years. :-)

I have never tried this but we used to have it with cream instead of butter. So just spread on the cream and sprinkle with sugar. It is unfortunately one of my favourite foods

My favorite childhood snack. My mom still makes it for me (open faced) when I visit and need a little sugar after dinner. We are not much of a dessert family--but love our "bread, butter and sugar!"

I, too, remember this fondly as a treat from my childhood. Mom served it open-faced and left the bread whole (no triangles). I'd run outside on warm summer evenings and savor every bite! Thanks for the trip down memory lane! ;0)

My great great uncle used to make this treat for my sister and me when we were little girls. I still make it sometimes and remember him.

This recipe brings back lots of memories from my childhood. We were poor at times and there was no money for snacks, so this is sort of what we made to satisfy our sweet tooth. We didn't make a sandwich out of it though, it was just bread butter and sugar. However, mom would always have different colored sugars available and we loved decorating our own slice of bread. I think I will go make one right now, thank-you for the memory!
