I couldn't resist this recipe. I lived in Cairo, Egypt for a couple of years during the 1970s and occasionally visited the new Shepheard Hotel. I don't remember this being on the menu at the time, but it's true that bartender Joe Scialom created this as a hangover drink for the allied troops stopping in Cairo during World War II. ears ago, his daughter shared his handwritten recipe, which said the recipe could use either bourbon or brandy. I made this with brandy because that's what I had on hand. A lovely refreshing drink with a nice tang. Suitable for any time: I didn't make it when I had a hangover.

I LOVE to cook and bake nearly everything!
I HATE to see people join the site, have no published recipes, but rag on another cook in a review on a recipe they haven't even tried or didn't follow.
Oh, and I hate cilantro, too. :)
