  • Add the bourbon, gin, lime juice and bitters into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled (about 30 seconds).
  • Strain into a Collins glass over fresh ice.
  • Top with the ginger ale.
  • Garnish with a mint sprig.

  1. I couldn't resist this recipe. I lived in Cairo, Egypt for a couple of years during the 1970s and occasionally visited the new Shepheard Hotel. I don't remember this being on the menu at the time, but it's true that bartender Joe Scialom created this as a hangover drink for the allied troops stopping in Cairo during World War II. ears ago, his daughter shared his handwritten recipe, which said the recipe could use either bourbon or brandy. I made this with brandy because that's what I had on hand. A lovely refreshing drink with a nice tang. Suitable for any time: I didn't make it when I had a hangover.
