  • Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a large mixing bowl; cut in butter with a pastry cutter until coarse crumbs form.
  • Form a well in the center; set aside.
  • Whisk egg, vanilla, cream, and buttermilk together;
  • Stir into dry mixture until just moistened.
  • Fold in strawberries; gently knead dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth.about 10 seconds.
  • Pat into a 7" circle about 1" thick.
  • Slice into 8 wedges -- arrange on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
  • To prepare GLAZE:

  • Combine egg and whipping cream.whisk till frothy.
  • Brush with glaze and sprinkle with additional sugar is desired.
  • Bake at 375° until golden, about 15 minutes.
  • Cool on a wire rack.

  1. This is my go to recipe for scones?..period! I love it, my whole family, extended family loves it! I always make a mock devonshire cream to pair with it?..delicious! I think it is plenty sweet, and I just use regular butter, and it turns out fine! slightly thawed strawberries ( not in syrup) works fine too. Love this!
     
  2. Sorry, I didn't care for this recipe at all. It wasn't sweet enough for us even with sprinkling sugar on top. I didn't care for the egg wash on top.....I would have preferred a glaze. I'm giving it 2 stars because I think others might like a less sweet scone. Reviewed for Zaar chef Alphabet Soup cooking tag game.

I love cooking, and reading Christian fiction..I have 5 grandchildren..4 boys and 1 spoiled granddaughter...I also have a black cocker spaniel named Tobey..who is very spoiled..Love computer games, cross stitch and reading cookbooks..I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia almost a year ago, on September 26, 2005....was in an out of the hospital for 8 months, doing intensive chemo...I am doing well now, thanks for all the prayers...
