I've recently started getting into making scones. This is a delicious recipe for them! If you like, add "Recipe#953365" as suggested by reviewer Marsha D.

Ingredients Nutrition

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°.
  2. Mix flour, baking powder, sugar and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Cut butter into small cubes and blend with a pastry blender until it resembles oatmeal (or small peas, if you don't like oatmeal).
  4. Add the orange zest and strawberries.
  5. Then slowly and gradually add the cream while mixing with a fork.
  6. As soon as the flour starts to come together into a dough, remove from the bowl and form into a ball.
  7. Place on a lightly floured surface and knead gently four or five times.
  8. Then shape with your hands (or a rolling pin) into an 8x10" rectangle.
  9. Cut the rectangle lengthwise into two 4x10" rectangles.
  10. Cut each of those into 6 or 7 triangles and place on an ungreased baking sheet.
  11. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Serve warm with softened butter, jam, creme fraiche or just as they are!

My daughter tried this recipe & they were really hard not eatable. We had to throw them away. I will try to make this same recipe myself to see if I will get different results. But as for now I will only give it 2 star because several ingredients were wasted on this recipe.

Ok...now..this..is fantastic. superb. wonderful. I rarely do long reviews, but this deserves it. First of all i used really ripe gorgeous berries, which adds to the sweetness..sometimes i think we forget what they taste like ruby red all the way through. Secondly I subbed Splenda for the sugar and it worked with no issues. As to sweetness, yes a glaze might help for those who want it, when warm sprinkle it with rock sugar. not sure what its called but the big grains of white sugar. However scones are not meant to be really sweet on their own. Traditionally they are served with clotted or whipped cream and jam if plain (these don't need jam lol). So I whipped up a little sweetened whipped cream and had a marvelous afternoon treat.

This is a great recipe! My DH loved them and so did I. I used MarshaD's suggestion and added "Powdered Sugar Glaze". These had great flavor and I can't wait to make more of them when strawberries are in season.
